MELANIN MOM CO.
It’s not just a business but a lifestyle.
Let’s begin by breaking our name down:
𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧: a dark brown to black pigment occurring in the hair, skin, & iris of the eye in people. In essence, every human has the same amount of melanocytes but some melanocytes produce more melanin than others (hence the darker skin tone & hair)
** Yet, we are judged by the amount of melanin we produce. We are seen differently because of our skin color.
𝐌𝐨𝐦: (for one I’m a mom) but “Mom” can be defined as someone who took you in and loves you unconditionally. That is biological mothers, adopted mothers, grandmas, aunties, or even cousins. Mom is someone who puts others before herself, someone who is caring, loving, selfless, and is the glue that holds everyone & everything together.
** Yet, we are often overlooked, disrespected, and because we’re supposed to be the “strong black woman” we are judged if we show emotions or considered “weak”. We can’t be tired because then we are considered lazy. We don’t have room to be stressed because well “we put ourselves in this situation”. We feel guilty when we get a little “me time” or self-care. Oh and don’t get me started on the healthcare system (the increased mortality rate for our black mothers … should we talk about it???)
𝐂𝐨.: prefix word meaning joint, together, with
** We know the saying, “it takes a village to raise a kid” but we need a village first which begins with Melanin Mom Co. We are here to form a sisterhood and a safe haven for other melanin moms like us.
Melanin Mom Co. is not a business that idolizes our blackness but shows appreciation of how God made us, loves every part of us, acknowledges the challenges that come from being black and most of all having faith and knowing God is the center of it all!
